Spotlight: Kansas

2025 saw a massive breakthrough in Kansas.

For years, the state’s governor Laura Kelly had vetoed bills that would have protected minors from sex change interventions.

But in February of 2025, lawmakers finally had enough. They overrode her veto of Senate Bill 63, which prohibits healthcare providers from providing so-called “gender-affirming care” to children.

This includes puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgical interventions.

The legislation also restricts state employees from promoting policies that aid the “social transitioning” of children.

The legislature overrode the veto with votes of 31-9 in the Senate and 85-34 in the House.

Now, Kansas children are protected from the harms of these interventions.

Representatives of Do No Harm Action, including Chloe Cole and Jamie Reed, had testified in front of Kansas lawmakers to demonstrate the need to protect children from these dangerous medical interventions.
